“The Microbial Health Clinic has an amazing team of hard working professionals. It has been a pleasure to meet them.”

Emily Davis

Established in 1970

For the past 50 years, Dr. Louie has examined the interactions between the gut microbiome and infectious diseases, such as C. difficile and MRSA by using effective microbial-based treatments:  Fecal microbiota transplantations (FMT) or Microbiome transplantation Therapy (MTT) delivered by ingesting poop in pill form. He’s also interested in how the microbiome impacts mental health disorders such as depression, anxiety and autism spectrum disorder. Dr. Louie is now examining how replacing gut microbiomes could improve the well-being of those with mental health disorders while continuing his work on investigating microbial-based therapies for C. difficile.

In addition, Dr. Louie is also conducting multiple clinical trials to assess the safety and efficacy of novel drugs in treating C. difficile infection (CDI) or recurrent CDI. Current clinical trails include: CRS3123 Phase II study from Creston, Rebiotix Phase III study, and lyophilized sterile fecal filtrate (LSFF) vs lyophilized fecal microbiota transplantation (LFMT).
